Windows 7 RC1 - Strange Network Errors [DHCP errors, Connection icon shows 'down']
Greetings to all OK, so I'm running RC1 (7100) x64 as a primary OS, since installing the public Beta a few months ago this is the first thing (that wasn't a minor annoyance) i've been unable to resolve. My newtork is functional (on the internet), however I have several problems. Note that this used to be working, I just noticed these problems recently. - First noticed that my Network Icon in System Tray/Notification Area always showed "No Connection Available" even though the Network was indeed active and working. 1) Tried disabling IPv6 protocol (as it said 'No network access' anyway) > No change 2) Tried changing from DHCP to Static IP > No change 3) Tried disabling EVERYTHING (QoS, Link-Layer Topology, etc) except Client for MS Networks and IPv4 > No change 4) Tried repeating everything above with ESET Firewall disabled (allow all traffic) > No change (Note - ESET Smart Security 4 has previously worked completely fine, as well as on the Build 7000 Beta - should I try uninstallnig it completely?) - OK, so I checked the Event Log > Administrative Events. Lots of junk, so I cleared everything first, then disabled/re-enabled the Network Connection (back on DHCP mode now, which works fine). I also have the IPv6 protocol disabled (unchecked) in the Network Connection properties. Two new Administrative Events were present: 1) Error; Source: RemoteAccess; Event ID: 20106 - Unable to add the interface {0AB3D274-28DA-4199-836B-3E554C8FC439} with the Router Manager for the IPV6 protocol. The following error occurred: Cannot complete this function. 2) Warning; Source: Dhcp-Client; Event ID: 1003 - Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x001FD097AA83. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server. OK, just for the heck of it, I right-clicked my Network Connection and ran Diagnose - apparently, "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (DNS server). The computer or service you are trying to reach might be temporarily unavailable". But the Internet is working fine. I don't have any other computers on my Network to File Share with so i'm unsure if it's working, but I also can't see my UPnP-enabled router in Windows 7 (whereas I can in my XP SP3 partition). Please note that I also have NOT applied any registry "tweaks" or "hacks". All Windows Services have been left at their default configuration too. Please advise on how I could further diagnose my problem here, i'm out of ideas. It's true that this appears to be mainly a visual glitch, however I am one of those sorts who like to keep my event log errors down to as little as possible... Thanks a lot in advance.

Can you uninstall the driver from device manager and let Windows reinstall it? Does that help?

hi there, danielc_au I was having the same problem...internet connection was fine...but the Network Icon showing me "No Connection Available" . That red cross wa s very annoying. My problem was because of the wireless nic...i don't use it and i have disabled it. The Network Icon with that message "No Connection Available" was for wireless nic. After i enable it (wireless nic) and uninstalled the wired nic from Device Manager (leave "delete drivers box" unchecked) and reinstall with "scan for hardware changes" everything was OK. I hope that this post, it will solve your problem...and maybe I will receive a free copy of W7 as a bonus :)) . Take care!

Have you tried disabling IPV6 for the network connection in question? 1. Right click the Network Connection icon in the Notification Area > Open Network and Sharing Center2. On the left hand pane, click "Change Adapter Settings"3. Right click on your Network connection in question (should be called Local Area Connection if hard-wired) > Properties4.Uncheck the box under "The Connection Uses the following items:" that says Internet Protocol Version 6.5. Click OK. 6. Repeat for any additional Network connections that are exhibiting the same symptoms.

Travis Morgan If your post was for me...the answer is YES i've disabled IP v6 for all adapters...and IP helper service. I also tried DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle ...registry trick. I've tried route delete 0.0.0.0 . After searching over the internet how to solve the problem with "unidentified network" ...i found the "*NdisDeviceType" solution....but applying it ..a new problem appeared. Like I have written above the internet was fine but the Network Icon from the tray was marked with a red X...because it was any wireless network nearby. If the wireless adapter have found one...I knew what to do to solve the problem...right in that moment. All of this...because i was not been able to do the NAT with my xp virtual machine. I did not care about the unidentified network until then :) . Anyway for those who are using vmware workstation (6.5.2.0 i guess) ...use host-only option and share your internet connection (i was the only option who has worked for me) . See ya!

Hello, First my (problem system) specs - Windows 7 Pro, Asus P5Q Pro Mobo, Intel E8400 CPU, 4gb G-skill ram, AMD Video card. I am experiencing similar problems as the OP did. Except in my case the internet actually does not work. I am temporarily living in an apartment complex, away from my home due to work, so resetting the router is out of the question. I did not experience this problem at home. I actually have 2 computers here. A laptop with WinXp pro and a desktop with Win7 Pro. The XP Pro machine connects to the network and goes right to the internet. The Win 7 machine connects to the network but doesn't ever connect to the internet. The error I get is "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (DNS server)" BTW, this is all wired. No wireless stuff. I have checked the information from ipconfig on both machines. All the important information matches - IP address, gateway, DHCP server, and the DNS servers. On the windows xp machine I can ping google.com and the DNS servers and get valid replies. When I try this on the Win7 machine I get no reply from either. I have tried all the usual suspects: Released/renewed the adapter Flush DNS Uninstall/reinstall device drivers Update device drivers Disabled ipv6 Reset TCP/IP stack Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Chris I'm at my wits end!

Not sure if you had solved the problem but I guess the solution is simple. net stop winhttpautoproxysvc net stop dhcp client //Infact soon after stop they restart themselves. net start winhttpautoproxysvc net start dhcp client let me know if this works for you
